Pero in peril

A friend of ours was recently walking her granddaughter's pet Chihuahua "Chica" when a Red-tailed Hawk swooped down and landed on a nearby street light. It watched the little dog intently. Soon realizing that little Chica might be on the Hawk's dinner menu, she quickly gathered up the little dog in her arms and turn for home. I have to wonder at the scene if the Hawk had swooped down and started flying off with the dog. Would our friend have let the leash pay fully out of its reel? Would an aerial tug-of-war have ensued? If the dog survived, would it have suffered PTSD?
